TO DEVELOP THE STUDENT'S KNOWLEDGE AND APPRECIATION OF NDB HOMING, HOLDING, AND APPROACH PROCEDURES

Review of applicable parts, chapters, and sections of the FAR/AIM, Instrument Approach Procedures (charts), Instrument Flying Handbook (IFH), and Pilot's Operating Handbook (POH) [Also possibly included: AC 60-14 (aviation instructors handbook), and the appropriate PTS books]

-AIM
- Instrument Flight Handbook (chapters 1 - 7)
- Instrument Flight Handbook (chapters 8 and beyond)
-FAR
-Instrument charts
-POH (as appropriate)

-Discuss Lesson Objectives
-Review applicable FAR/AIM parts/sections
*FAR Part 61, 65 (rating requirements)
*FAR Part 91, 167-187 (various)
*AIM, 1-1-1 (NDB), 5-4-7 & 5-4-8 (procedure turns), and 5-3-6 (holding).
-Review instrument approach charts.
-Review applicable IFH sections
*IFH, Ch V p. 94, VII pp. 140 & 156, IX p. 156 (Homing); and appropriate sections for approaches, holding, and procedure turns.
-Review applicable POH sections (such as appropriate holding airspeeds and approach categories.

-Discuss Lesson Objectives
-Listen, take notes, and ask questions
-Review reference documents

-The student should have the capability to explain NDB homing, holding. procedure turns, and approach procedures.

-Lack of appropriate reference manuals and documents.
-Lack of knowledge of aircraft performance capabilities and associated airspeeds.
-Failure to tune and identify the NDB facility, and leave the ID feature on during the approach.
-Unable to determine the NDB relative bearing.
-Unable to maintain the specified parameters of airspeed, heading, and altitude.
-Uses improper procedures to tracking.
-Failure to recognize NDB facility failure, if appropriate.
