Review of applicable parts, chapters, and sections of the FAR/AIM, Instrument Approach Procedures (charts), Instrument Flying Handbook (IFH), and Pilot's Operating Handbook (POH) [Also possibly included: AC 60-14 (aviation instructors handbook), and the appropriate PTS books]

- Instrument Flight Handbook (chapters 1 - 7)
- Instrument Flight Handbook (chapters 8 and beyond)
-FAR
-Instrument charts

-Discuss Lesson Objectives
-Review applicable FAR/AIM parts/sections
*FAR Part 61, 65 (rating requirements)
*FAR Part 91, 205 (IFR equipment)
*AIM, 5-4-10.3.A (no gyro approach), 1-1-3 (VOR), 5-4-20 & 5-5-4 (approach), 4-4-8 (clearing procedures), 2-1-2 (glideslope indicators), 4-4-8 & 5-5-5 (separation).
-Review instrument approach charts.
-Review applicable IFH sections
*IFH, XII p. 215 (no gyro approach - ATC operations and procedures).
-Review applicable POH sections (such as appropriate holding airspeeds and approach categories).

-Discuss Lesson Objectives
-Listen, take notes, and ask questions
-Review reference documents

-The student should have the capability to explain No Gyro VOR approach procedures.

-Lack of appropriate reference manuals and documents.
-Lack of knowledge of aircraft performance capabilities.
-Failure to notify ATC of instrument failures and/or inability to comply with a clearance.
