TO DEVELOP THE STUDENT'S KNOWLEDGE AND APPRECIATION OF PARTIAL PANEL FLYING FOLLOWING RECOGNITION IF THE ATTITUDE INDICATOR AND/OR THE HEADING INDICATOR IS INACCURATE OR INOPERATIVE, AND ADVISES ATC.

Review of applicable parts, chapters, and sections of the Instrument Flying Handbook (IFH), FAR Part 61, and Pilot's Operating Handbook (POH) [Also possibly included: AC 60-14 (aviation instructors handbook), and the appropriate PTS books]

- Instrument Flight Handbook (chapters 1 - 7)
- Instrument Flight Handbook (chapters 8 and beyond)
-FAR
-POH (as appropriate)
-Aircraft

-Discuss Lesson Objectives
--Basic concept of partial panel flying (also called "emergency panel" in the IFH).
--Discuss functions of following instruments: altimeter, airspeed indicator, turn-and-slip indicator (needle and ball, or the turn coordinator).
-Review applicable IFH sections
*IFH, IV pp. 25-54 (Basic Flight Instruments).
-Review applicable POH sections.
-Review FAR 61 - reporting malfunctioning equipment.

-Discuss Lesson Objectives
-Listen, take notes, and ask questions
-Review reference documents

-The student should have the capability to explain the basic flight instruments relating to partial panel instrument flying.

-Lack of appropriate reference manuals and documents.
-Lack of knowledge of aircraft performance capabilities.
-Poor instrument scan, interpretation and erratic aircraft control.
