Fuel Requirements

[ ] TO DEVELOP THE STUDENT'S KNOWLEDGE OF FEDERAL AND PRACTICAL FUEL REQUIREMENTS FOR IFR FLIGHT.

-Review IFR Flight Plan Requirements :10
-Review Fuel Planning Criteria :10

-FAR Part 91.167
- Instrument Flight Handbook (chapters 1 - 7)
- Instrument Flight Handbook (chapters 8 and beyond)
-POH for the aircraft

-Discuss Lesson Objectives
-Review Reference Publications with the Student
-Review Fuel Requirements for IFR flight
--When flying IFR, you must carry sufficient fuel to fly to the first airport of intended landing, fly to the alternate airport (if required), and then fly for 45 minutes at normal cruising speed.
--An alternate is not required if the destination airport has:
---At least one approved instrument approach (IAP), and
---From 1 hour before to 1 hour after the ETA, a forecast of at least (1) 2,000 ft. ceiling, and (2) 3 SM visibility.

-Discuss Lesson Objectives & Answer Student Pilot's Questions
-Listen, Take Notes, and Ask Questions
-Review Reference Material

-The student should have the ability to explain IFR fuel requirements.
